Stuart Dodman is a British artist based in Brighton whose practice spans painting, drawing, installation, and sound.
While his work moves fluidly between media his main output is painting, often in series, which is rooted in the act of creating, foundation and fundamentals. Working in series and strands allow Dodman to make things to overcome the constant nagging doubt of image making. His paintings are either unplanned, organic drawings into paint, accumulation of material or retracing previous actions. Dodman's paintings embody the process of making; The permeance of the mark, the build up of pictorial relationships and the underlying foundational support all reoccur in his work.
Dodman holds a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Sheffield Hallam University. Alongside his visual art, he has worked with sound and object-based installations, with projects released internationally. His work has been exhibited in the UK and internationally and is held in private collections in the USA, Mexico, Canada, Europe and the UK.
