ABSTRACT SURREALISM

I'm taking my inspiration from employment with elemantary situations of human existance, like birth, death, become, turn, grow, pass, love, being and going by. In my panitings are phantasies, imaginations, ideas, experiences and wishes - not only reproduce real, but also expressing the feelings . Thereby there is a lot of margin for personal connotation and interpretation. By painting theres a dialogue, an interplay from spontaneity and control, from freedom and discipline. Every work is talking about a story, a dream or an inner feeling.....

F. Hauptvogel, lecturer Academy of Arts, Dresden, Germany about Mona Schwenkers Artworks:

Tracing curiously and sinking into imagination

Circles, ellipses and loops leave their jumbled traces in condensing water on a window pane.

A message, a secret formula. Paths on a map or a game board done by childrens hands

In Mona Schwenkers Paintings you will find it all: the traces, the fragile ornament, then again a hieroglyph. Fine traces, the marking in metal, but everything is in its place.

Lines line and pierce bodies and matters, evolve into specifics in a spherical world, out of pastel and transparent backgrounds, far away from the real world, where no thought can exist, but where the senses are wide awake.

Absent, not of this world but full of imagination. In Mona Schwenkers paintings images evolve right out these thoughts! Become shape, become form.

This different process of perception of facing the world with feelings is crucial for Mona Schwenkers work.

All which leads to perception is visible

In another painting In The Name Of Love, skilfully composed by the artist, youll find signs, signposts of our modern world, obviously understandable at first glimpse, but we are led into an unknown world, along detours to the truth that we are only able to reach our goal by intuition, by relying on our instincts.

The natural body exists in the context of synthesis out of feeling, grows from playing lines. Similar to Egypt wall paintings: First: Symbolic, clear and powerful like the drawing of a medical study book, then: full of grace in position and expression.
