This still life captures the quiet elegance of everyday objects. A bowl of citrus fruits—grapefruit, orange, and lemon—sits under soft afternoon light. The gentle color palette and subtle brushwork evoke a calm, domestic moment, inviting viewers to pause and appreciate beauty in simplicity.

Artist Statement I am a painter working in a classical tradition, using time-honored techniques to explore deeply personal narratives shaped by my lived experience. My work is rooted in a series that reflects the emotional and psychological journey of deciding to leave Korea and begin a new life in New York. This transition—marked by uncertainty, hope, loss, and resilience—serves as the foundation of my visual language. Through painting, I seek to translate these internal experiences into images that resonate beyond my own story. The emotions embedded in my work are not mine alone; they echo feelings that many people encounter throughout their lives—moments of departure, transformation, and adaptation. By engaging with these shared human experiences, I hope to create a space where the viewer and the painting can meet in empathy and reflection. As an artist living between two cultures, I am also to seek a harmony between my Korean heritage and my life in New York. This intersection informs both the conceptual and aesthetic aspects of my work, shaping a practice that bridges tradition and contemporary experience. Ultimately, my goal is to create paintings that invite viewers into a quiet but meaningful connection—where personal narrative becomes collective understanding. BIOGRAPHY Eun Young Yun is a Korean-American figurative painter based in New York, whose work bridges classical technique and contemporary expression.
