ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Inspired by Ferdinand Leger and the cubism. I start by sawing a shape out of wood. I have painted strips of canvas in all sort of colors. I merged these strips, I cut and slide until I have an image of lines that form a whole with each other. After having a good composition I stick the strips on the plywood.

It all is about abstraction. Abstraction in the art of painting is an ongoing journey. Searching for the possibilities and boundaries of my paintings, composition, colour, shape, plane and space, detached from any reference or reality. Materials and the image, everything that turns a canvas into a painting, can evolve from the unfamiliar and unexplored to the more well known domain and back. The work reflects the daily interactions with painting. The searching for, executing of, preparing, inquiring, correcting, reflecting, registering, taking decision etc. Where I have once begun from a strict set of lines and planes, restrictions were lifted gradually, and the unpredictable took shape. Feeling and ratio collided. The many and diverse artistic experiments resulted in a range of spectacular works with series such as ‘what’s up, what’s down’, ‘van achter, van voren’, ‘crosspoints’, ‘what’s behind’, ‘front attack’ etc.
