About The Artwork

" Zombory stands at the border of the Naive, the Expressive, and the formal Surrealism, through a clear message of the images... Attracted by the beauty of Venice, she depicts it with great charisma, making it feel with expressionistic brush strokes. To suggest this from every corner of the city and portrays Venice with passion but also with grace and harmony. In her palette she introduces blues,blacks.grays.and whites but also pinks and yellows which give vibrancy to her work and overlapping them by creating a clear transparency of poetry, full of emotions color bands, creating a harmony .Tuned likes as a Symphony and produce new fantastic spaces, like the sound of a Rondo Veneziano. There are swarm of figures in 18th century costumes in the Magical Carnival, the figures are painted with small vibrating brushstrokes as a derived from Paul Signac' s pointillism..........." Letizia Zombory is a DUTCH citizen (born in Hungary in 1944 in a noble family,on father's side she has Italian ancestors)The parents's assets were expropriated by the communist regime, she was discriminated because of her origin. She studied 3 years economics on the university in Budapest and after 2 years marketing. She wanted to study art history, but there was no possibility for it. In 1972 she married and became mother of two children (1975,1979) In 1977 she escaped the Hungarian communist regime with her husband and two year old daughter without passport. Their passports were revoked and the only way out of Hungary was southwards to Greece. In Greece she was free for the first time in her life. The Netherlands was her safe haven, they travelled across Europe from Greece to The Netherlands, and the journey lasted a whole month. There was only bread an water to feed her and her family. In Netherland she became Dutch citizen in 1984 and founded the peace and tranquillity. Her marriage resulted in a divorced in 1984.Around that time to cope what happened, she considered a career as a painter, to fulfill her childhood dreams. In 2004 destiny struck again and her 24 old son was killed in a horrific accident. The only was she could cope and still be able to live with this tragedy, was by painting. Of course pain and sorrow remained with her. In 2009 at 65 years she choose for a different path in life and burned her ships to pursuit a new life and career as a painter in Italy. This was a true hardship. Her daughter and son--in-low ( in Amsterdam) aided her whereever possible. In Italy she was discovered soon by galleries, art fairs, museums and Accademies. She was invited to participate in every artist happening. The media wrote highly about her and her artworks appeared in many magazines and catalogues. (In London too) ARTIST STATEMENT In my paintings I am always searching for the inner soul of a theme. A face, that cannot be seen. A soul, which can be beautiful or ugly. The image can be either a reality or surreal. The image has to belong to the theme and the hidden must be expressed, by any means necessary. I am always looking for the feelings of people, landscapes and inanimate objects. In my Venice series, I want to show the other face of this wonderful town, a face that has not been painted during the centuries.
