Abandoned ship in Trapani salt mines - Sicily, Italy - 2010 Along the coast between Trapani and Marsala stretches the evocative landscape of "saline" (salt mines). Among the low pools where water is left to evaporate lies this abandoned ship, almost surreal in that oddly beautiful environment.

Antonio Capurso was born and raised in Molfetta (Puglia, Italy). After almost a decade living in Rome, he is now based in London, UK. Antonio’s photographic education started in Rome, attending courses at schools such as Laboratori Visivi, Exusphoto, Officine Fotografiche and Centro Sperimentale di Fotografia Adams. Although experimenting with different photographic languages, Antonio’s main interest is landscape. It’s no coincidence that Antonio has always been fascinated by the great Italian landscape photographers of the 1970s and 1980s (in particular Luigi Ghirri, but also Gabriele Basilico, Giovanni Chiaramonte and Mimmo Iodice). Other sources of inspiration include Josef Koudelka, Davide Monteleone and Andreas Gursky. Regarding himself more as an observer than an artist, Antonio is particularly attracted to the multi-faceted relationship between humans and the spaces they live in. Antonio believes urban landscapes, parks, green oases and metropolitan areas can tell powerful stories about the people who interact with them. Antonio does not seek any “decisive moment” in his shots. On the contrary, he believes that distancing himself from the spasmodic search for the most precise instant to fix in a picture is the key to a more reflexive (and perhaps evocative) photography.
