I was born and raised in Florida... a land of big skies and lots of water. I’ve always been fascinated by one of the greatest visual paradoxes that exists. How is the edge of a planetary sphere presented and perceived as a straight line? The horizon has always been a source of wonder and mystery for me. Who among us has not had a life-changing thought while staring at this incredibly straight line?...
It is a defining feature of our existence on this ball of air, water, rock, and life.

These images are created from my imagination… only the horizon is real. It is a boundary,... a separation between air and water. A separation between our earthly realm and all that is above us. I create images of air and I create images of water. But, not at the same time. I choose my water, then I choose my air. I place them together and then choose the placement of the horizon. The one thing I can’t choose is our Earth-bound view of the horizon... It’s a straight line. The purest line in our world.

Air & Water No. 38 was the result of "right place, right time". I was out on the water in my boat with my wife and some friends when this large "anvil" cloud started forming. It was to the east of us with the now set sun behind us. The top of this cloud was tens of thousands of feet high and still able to catch the last bright rays of sun while we sat in the dusk. It is produced in a limited edition of 10 in it's largest print size. It is printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 with Archival Pigments. The image size is 40 inches x 40 inches with a 2" border for a final work that measures 44 inches x 44 inches and is shipped in a crush-resistant tube. Signed and numbered on the front, it also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The Certificate of Authenticity has a unique hologram and serial number system that is also present on the back of the Limited Edition print. Your Limited Edition print will be registered with the Hahnemühle Art Registry. You can also acquire the image in various open edition sized prints with a choice of framing or as a gallery-wrapped canvas.

Marc Ward is a Florida born artist that resides in the mountains of East Tennessee. Though he now lives on sloped ground, much of his work is still shaped by the expansive views of his home state’s flat land and water. During the 70’s and 80’s his three dimensional work was exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions including the Smithsonian Institute’s Renwick Gallery. The 90’s and 00’s saw he and his wife Kathy, operate their own gallery that represented the work of 150+ artists and craftspeople. Also, during this period, Marc started a firm that produces equipment for potters, sculptors, glassblowers, and metal casters. Now, his photographic based work is exhibited nationally and internationally with his work garnering awards such as the International Black & White Spider Awards and the International Color Awards.
