ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is a collection of images made from pebbles gathered off a beach in Wales. I wanted to explore the shape, line and relationship of these natural shapes and have introduced colour to emphasise the relationship between the forms and the surrounding negative space. They were captured on a large format camera, scanned and then printed onto archival paper and pigment. Whilst making this collection I was guided by the artists of Bath Academy of Art in the 1950s, with particular reference to William Scott, as well as the work of American Artist Ellsworth Kelly.

I am a fine art photographer working primarily with hand-crafted large-format analogue photography. Although my subject matter ranges from portraiture to landscape the influence of American abstract artists Ellsworth Kelly, Jackson Pollack and Richard Serra has led me to use photography and in particular the negative image to explore abstraction and harmony created in nature. My methodology references the origins of photography, utilising large format cumbersome cameras, though not the speediest of processes it enables me to create images with a timeless yet contemporary quality.
