VIKTOR CHOUCHKOV Director | Photographer | Producer Viktor Chouchkov is a Bulgarian film director, producer, and visual artist. His career in cinema began early—at age nine, he won the Special Jury Prize at the Moscow International Film Festival (1981) for his leading role in Yo-ho-ho by Zako Heskiya. He later trained as a visual artist at the National School of Fine Arts in Sofia and graduated in film directing from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA), studying under Acad. Lyudmil Staikov. In 2003, together with his brother Borislav Chouchkov, he founded the production company Chouchkov Brothers, which has produced and co-produced over 19 internationally recognized films, including: • Western by Valeska Grisebach (Cannes – Un Certain Regard) • Son of Sofia by Elina Psykou (Tribeca – Best International Narrative) • Why Me? by Tudor Giurgiu (Berlinale – Panorama) Chouchkov’s feature debut TILT (2011) was selected at over 35 international festivals including Seattle, Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, Gothenburg, Jerusalem, Montreal, and Sofia IFF. The film won 14 awards, including Best Debut at Raindance and Best Director at the California Independent Film Festival, and was Bulgaria’s official submission to the Oscars 2011. His second feature, 18% Grey (2020), premiered at Sofia Film Fest and screened at Palic, Transilvania, and Taormina, where it won Best Actor. The film has been available on Netflix Europe since 2022. In recent years, Chouchkov has become a key director in Bulgarian television drama, leading multiple high-profile series including: • The Mothers (2025, mini-series based on the novel by Teodora Dimova, NOVA TV / United Group) Sales: Beta film (Germany) • The War of the Letters (2022,BNT) • Scars (2021,bTV) • Path of Honour (2022,Nova TV) • Walk of Fame (2023, 36 episodes, Nova TV) In addition to his work in film and TV, Chouchkov is also an active photographer. His debut exhibition opened in 2015 at Vivacom Art Hall (Sofia), followed by his second solo show Reimagined Truth in Vienna during the FOTOWIENphotography forum in 2023, ONE Gallery Sofia in 2025.
