It's famous for its brutal cobbles and forming the crunch point in the Paris – Roubaix cycle race. Dating back to the late 18th century and set within the forest of Arenberg, an old mining area of Norther France, this is a 2.3km stretch of Napoleonic cobble stones aimed to test even the strongest rider. An abstract view of the cobbles or "pavé" If you've ridden this road, you'll realise the significance of this attritional path.
