THE ELECTROPOLIS COLLECTION
The Electropolis Collection is an homage to 20th century abstract painters. It consists of a series of abstract, digital photographs shot in 2014 with a technique combining daytime long-exposure (shutter speeds of several seconds using ND filters) and intentional camera movement (either through experimental hand gestures, body moves or the motion of a means of transportation). My research was specifically focused on the pictorial quality of the motion blur and its aesthetics. Inspired by how motion blur can resemble the brush strokes of a painter, I experimented with it to create new impressions.

Apart from basic contrast/saturation adjustments, this photo looks just like it came out of my camera. No effects of any kind have been applied.

ABOUT THIS PHOTO
I shot this photo in 2014 in Poznan (Poland). The subject was a toy - similar to Rubik's cube - that I found in a five-and-dime store. The deconstruction of its three dimensionality, a pursuit dear to cubist painters, was achieved through a multifold panning movement of the camera along the different sides of the object.

TECHNICAL DETAILS
This photo - just like all my other works on Saatchiart - is printed on brushed aluminum by Whitewall - the German, award-winning photo lab renowned for its superior, gallery-quality, printing process. The photo is printed straight onto the surface of the brushed aluminum Dibond panel with UV Fine Art pigments. The end result is a modern 7-color print with a matte finish, but there's one peculiarity: the bright parts of the image are omitted from the print. In these areas the underlying aluminum remains visible, so despite having a matte look, the print will also have an overall metallic shimmer to it.

This effect perfectly underscores the timelessness of my images. Furthermore, depending on the light and the viewing angle, the aluminum surface shimmers differently, therefore constantly altering the prints’ appearance in unpredictable ways and making the experience of viewing - and owning - an aluminum print a more engaging experience. This is the reason why I print all of my artistic works on brushed aluminum.

Prints on aluminum are thin (0.3cm), sturdy and incredibly light. Being pre-treated with UV light protects them from light damage, dust particles and moisture. As a matter of fact, not only are aluminum prints rust-proof, they are also - differently from most other print materials - suitable for bathrooms and sheltered outdoor areas.

My prints -unless otherwise stated- are always fitted, as from the photos, with Whitewall's aluminum rail rectangle (depth 1.5cm) and are therefore ready to hang, vertically or horizontally. The 1.5cm distance from the wall makes up for an eye-catching 'float' effect that beautifully emphasises the print.

***Every limited-edition is numbered on the back of the print and hand-signed by myself.***
The alu-dibond panel is 3mm (0.1 inch) thick and consists of 3 layers: 2 outer, aluminium layers + 1 inner polyethylene layer – the compound material is therefore especially stable, rust- and moisture-proof, long-lasting while remaining light due to the inner polyethilene layer.

Alessandro Corsini is a visual artist working with video and photography, based in Berlin, Germany. Born in Milan (Italy) in the seventies, having grown up on the pristine beaches of Sardinia, he had his first encounter with B&W film photography during a course at his intermediate school in Maryland, USA. The interest for media has since guided his multifaceted formation, leading him not only to study and work with different media, but actually exploring them through artistic, scientific, and applied arts lenses. His eclectic body of work is a reflection of his free spirit, cosmopolitan upbringing, and interdisciplinary background. His photographic research focuses on fine-art, conceptual works that deconstruct/decontextualize traditional photographic genres and techniques, in the pursuit of a new, purely artistic, definition of photographic iconicity.
