Multiple-exposure-photography allows achieving a painterliness that relies on emergent properties of the 'reality' that has been recorded. In this case, photographs systematically taken from around the statue were meticulously aligned on the edges of the plinth. This allows the image of the statue to dissolve into its background. It suggests how our need to place someone or something on a pedestal is more constant and enduring that whoever and whatever we place on our pedestals. Especially in the post-colonial context of the square in the centre of the Pretoria, capital of South Africa. Listed dimension includes 5cm white margin. Signed and numbered in pencil below image.
