I call this series "Art i Facts" as they preserve traces of humanity in 1979. This is a color photograph from a transparency that I made in Manhattan, New York City, in 1979. At that time, I was one of the only fine art potographers worldwide working in color. In fact there were only about 5 of us exhibiting in galleries in New York City. I was a permanent artist and represented by the Alonzo Gallery on West 57th St. Color was not deemed investment quality because it faded. I persisted though because I felt that one day it would be and then I would have a trove of images. In 1979, I spent about a year walking the streets of Manhattan photographing torn posters and abstract wall composition. In quiet spaces, where no one was around, I felt the faces on the posters in a way, inhabited the spaces. Combined with lettering, graphics, or grafitti, they created cryptic compositions. No one then or since has made these types of images. All of them were shot using a medium format Rolleiflex TLR camera with Ektachrome transparency film that I processes. As a last step, I put them through a formaldehyde bath, which I attribute to preserving these images for over 40 years so far. This is the best image I could ever make from this chrome. It was scanned and edited in Photoshop and printed digitally with an Epson professional printer on Epson 22"X17" Epson Exhibition Fiber paper. Thee is a border of 1" on the right and left, and a border of 3.5" on the top and bottom. It is titled and numbered on the lower left, and signed and dated on the lower right, in archival pen. The print run is limited to 10, but this is print #1. There probably never will be 10. It is dated with the year of creation on the front, and year of printing on the back. I have also imprinted my right thumb print to guarantee authenticity, initialed and dated it.

BLACK FRIDAY SALE ON MY WEBSITE Mr. Martin is a citizen of the USA, having been born in upstate New York State and spending his youth in the small rural village of Clinton. Because of this exposure, and frequent trips to their summering spot in the Adirondack Mountains, nature became a part of him. Naturally, it would become expressed though his art, which was inspired by his father, a part time professional photographer and amateur watercolor painter. When he was young, professional cameras were ever present, as well as a fully equipped darkroom. There was a mystique about photography, and "that place", that he wanted to know, so he convinced his father to teach him. Thus began a life long career as a fine art photographer. Later, he went on to study fine art photography at college, and earn an MFA in photography so as to be able to teach photography on the college level, have time to produce his work, and earn a living from what he loved. He was a fine art photography teacher for over thirty years, and is now retired, having done so in 2008, to concentrate full time on his work. Over the years, Mr. Martin has won numerous awards and feature articles have been published about him in national and international publications. Recently, his pictures have been featured in the UK, Australia, and the USA. His flora images of hosta plants have won first place awards in the Prix de la Photographie, Paris, the International Photography Awards (The Lucies), and the International Garden Photographer of the Year.
