BLINDFOLD | limited edition of 5 aluminum prints | Photograph

Blindfold | Holy & Broken collection | Cinque Terre, Italy (2016) Holy & Broken is a collection of limited-edition photographic prints on brushed aluminum that was inspired by the lifelong process of discovering my own spirituality. It consists of candid photographs I took between 2015 and 2019 during my trips. My family tree has roots that are deeply entrenched in the catholic tradition but, generation after generation, these links have weakened. Untypically for Italians, I was brought up as an atheist. The concept of "faith" has been unknown to me throughout my whole childhood. Only in my late pubertal years, I started researching about different world religions and set foot on a path towards questioning my atheistic upbringing. A process that to date is still ongoing. I shot this photo on a day trip to Cinque Terre with my girlfriend on a warm, july afternoon. A loud group of kids had gathered on the rocks in Monterosso. They were dead scared of jumping off the rocks each time but each time they would impatiently run up the rocks again. You could feel their excitement in the air. I love how mysterious, mystical, almost magical the sea looks in this photo. A bit like the prospect of growing up and future life experiences might look in the eyes of a kid. TECHNICAL DETAILS This photo - just like all my other works on Saatchiart - is printed on brushed aluminum by Whitewall - the German, award-winning photo lab renowned for its superior, gallery-quality, printing process. The horizontally brushed, metallic surface adds a characteristic flair to my images making them look timeless: old-fashioned and modern at the same time. Depending on the light and the viewing angle, the aluminum surface shimmers differently, therefore constantly altering the prints’ appearance in unpredictable ways. This is the reason why I print all of my artistic works on brushed aluminum. Prints on aluminum are thin (0.3cm), sturdy and incredibly light. Being pre-treated with UV light protects them from light damage, dust particles and moisture. As a matter of fact, not only are aluminum prints rust-proof, they are also - differently from most other print materials - suitable for bathrooms and sheltered outdoor areas. My prints -unless otherwise stated- are always fitted, as from the photos, with Whitewall's aluminum rail rectangle (depth 1.5cm) and are therefore ready to hang, vertically or horizontally. The 1.5cm distance from the wall makes up for an eye-catching 'float' effect that beautifully emphasises the print. Every single limited-edition print is numbered and hand-signed by myself.
