Lola The Black Dog out on a cruise across the Chatham Bar... A collection of ever-shifting shoals that form a formidable maze at the entrance to the harbor, Chatham Bar migrates constantly, making traversing it a tricky deal even for the most experienced mariners. The Chatham Bar has been an infamous navigation hazard through the centuries. Getting past it was the chief challenge when Bernie Webber and his crew went out to rescue the survivors stranded on the Pendleton in February 1952. On the afternoon of Nov. 9, 1620, the Mayflower came to a turning point in the dangerous Pollack Rip off Chatham. There, Capt. Christopher Jones steered the ship north, effectively ending its voyage to the Hudson River. Two days later the ship anchored in Provincetown where it remained for roughly five weeks before sailing west to Plymouth where the Mayflower Compact was established instead of New York., all of this happened because the Mayflower could not round Chatham .
