This is a photograph of a sculptural work in progress. Originally, I snapped a few pictures after setting the suspended plaster heart in motion, to be used for some stop-motion project. I play with light and contrast in this minimalistic work. The concept is that of the heart as a pendulum, there is unrest in the image. And a vacuum like a negative space, in which the heart is suspended.

Maham Suhail, a Karachi-born artist with a base in Lahore (Pakistan) & London (UK), has been displaying her visual/sound artwork since after her first group show, the ‘Sanjh Art Exhibition’ at the Alhamra Arts Council, Lahore (2010): a large-scale show including established as well as emerging artists of the time. As an early visual art practice, Maham was always sketching and painting, till finally deciding to start making public, her Digital Photography. She was on the Dean’s Honor Roll during her time at Beaconhouse National University (M.A. Arts & Design), 2013. Maham began her experiments with Video & Sound Art around this time, while continuing to exhibit her Modern Art Prints & AV projections, nationally and internationally. Apart from working with focused mediums across projects/events, she has also continued to work with Multi-disciplinary practices: overlapping Fixed Media, Poetry, Movement, Sound & Performance/Video installation, and Art prints. Maham had her first solo show at the Lahore Arts Council in 2014. Her images have been part of an ‘Exposure Photo. Award’ publication (2015), and also used as digital projections in galleries, theatre and music shows. Maham’s artwork is mostly conceptual, as moving between two conditions: shining through the crevices of a prolonged existential crisis, and transcending into higher consciousness in moments of resolution.
