The image is a series of London night shots and is an explosion of colour to produce a shot similar to an abstract painting. I have used a technique while photographing; applying the camera in an unconventional manner to render the image abstract, thereby making it artistic. I hope the viewer will...

Carl Gamester is a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, photography, and painting. He holds a BA in Fine Art and is a member of the Surrey Sculpture Society. For Carl, art is both vocation and meditation—a space where ego dissolves and creativity takes over. His work has been exhibited in the UK and abroad, and he has exhibited with noted artists such as Michael Speller and Lydia Corbett (Picasso’s muse). His sculptures have been shortlisted by Runnymede Borough Council to commemorate WWI and recommended as learning aids for children with special needs. Carl’s practice explores emotional and psychological landscapes through a wide range of materials and styles. His sculptures often begin with subconscious influences, evolving from sketch to three-dimensional form. Pieces like Artemis reflect personal catharsis, while his Tree of Life series—constructed from reclaimed metal—represents the divergent paths of life and the dynamic tension between choices. These works balance form, negative space, and material contrast to achieve visual and emotional impact. Surrealism and the subconscious are recurring influences in Carl’s paintings and sculptures, particularly in his portrayals of the female form, which symbolise both sensual power and psychological resonance. His paintings, applied in layered textures with knives rather than brushes, often take on a sculptural quality, reinforcing his desire to blur boundaries between media. Carl's photography spans traditional analogue methods to experimental digital techniques. His black-and-white portraiture often focuses on marginalised individuals, challenging viewer preconceptions and evoking empathy. Recently, Carl has been capturing nocturnal light and colour to create painterly photographic abstractions—images that transform the camera into a brush and the night sky into canvas. At the heart of Carl’s work is a desire to create timeless, thought-provoking pieces that resonate with viewers on an emotional and philosophical level. Whether working with stone, metal, paint, or film, he strives to infuse each work with vitality, presence, and authenticity. His work is held in private collections in the UK and internationally.
