About The Artwork

Blue Rings, San Jacinto Mountains (2014) Paper and image size: 24 x 36 in. (61 x 91.4cm) Limited edition of 20 + 2 A/P's Fine Art Giclée photographic print on archival fine art paper using archival pigment ink. Signed and numbered on back of print. Includes a signed Certificate of Authenticity. The credit line shown on the preview image does not appear on a print you will receive. History - This image was taken a few years ago amidst granite rock outcroppings in the San Jacinto Mountains of southern California. A majestic trip aboard the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to 8,500’ was just the appetizer for what became a visually wondrous day. While hiking I discovered areas with old fallen trees. It was soon after a heavy rain had washed away dust and debris from the decomposing wood’s surface. The colors and textures of the wood were enhanced from being swollen with moisture. It’s magical how rain sustains life in the forest. Rain brought this fallen wood back to life, if only for the day. While composing this image, clouds drifted by, birds called out to each other from trees above, and the sun warmed an occasional chill. Woodsy scents surrounded me. Nirvana. Aesthetics - This image may also be hung in a horizontal orientation. Let your eye and the space it may be displayed in be your guide. Also, note a shallow depth of field in the image. Depicting softness along an edge due to a forced perspective or respecting the shape of the wood as it falls away is deliberate. Hopefully it is as pleasing to your eye as it is mine. Does wood really have blue in it? Well, yes and no. I normally shoot in manual mode with a set color balance. Blues are a result of the blue sky reflecting off moisture in the wood, or from a cooler color temperature as clouds passed overhead. Occasionally it was both. Exclusive to buyers - I will be delighted to share a short video of being among the clouds as they crested a ridge among the rocks and trees, plus a photograph of the surrounding area. You can vicariously experience what it was like to be there the day this image was taken. www.brucetalbot.com

Los Angeles, California, United States - . . Born in Montana, Bruce Talbot's first picture was taken with a Kodak Instamatic at age nine while in the mountains of Colorado. That picture was of a cloud. Picture taking then continued for the next decade with no particular direction other than preserving moments. It was learning to work with film in a B/W and Color darkroom that transitioned him into a working professional. Several of his images are now in private collections with select commissioned images reaching 14' in height. His favorite subjects are sculptural and often organic. Faces, bodies, found objects in nature and of course, those wily clouds. Contrary to the appearance in his profile image, he's quite an affable fellow.
