Photography: Polaroid, Color, Paper, Wax on Paper, Wood.
A morning walk on the ocean beach, I watched as this surfer contemplated the waves as he entered the water. One of the most beautiful sports, carving the waves out. I moved away from the typical expected colors that one sees in a Polaroid and used this special film. I have this photo printed on a fine art paper and then glue it to birch which is non-acidic. Then begins the process of adding the encaustic wax which I do with a brush and then work with a palette knife until I get it to the point where I feel it is finished. The wax is polished by hand several times until it shines.
When finished I have framer use a fine maple frame and float it without glass. The beauty of encaustic wax is that you don't need to cover it with glass.
