About The Artwork

In the fall of 2008, some very unusual weather conditions happened. First it got very cold and the frost killed all the plants. Then it warmed up and became very dry for an extended period. This had the effect of creating very dry wilted plants with unique colors. This is an image of the common garden plant, the hosta. As you can see, it is partially decayed, but most of it displays a spectrum of unusual colors. The image was made with a high quality digital DSLR. It is printed on Epson Exhibition Fiber paper with an Epson professional printer and archival pigment inks with a longevity rating of over 100 years before any noticeable fading occurs. It is on 22"X17" paper and has a border of 1" on the left and right, and a 1.8" border on the top and bottom. It is titled and numbered on the lower left and signed and dated on the lower right, in archival pen.

BLACK FRIDAY SALE ON MY WEBSITE https://russmartinandmarciamartin.com Mr. Martin is a citizen of the USA, having been born in upstate New York State and spending his youth in the small rural village of Clinton. Because of this exposure, and frequent trips to their summering spot in the Adirondack Mountains, nature became a part of him. Naturally, it would become expressed though his art, which was inspired by his father, a part time professional photographer and amateur watercolor painter. When he was young, professional cameras were ever present, as well as a fully equipped darkroom. There was a mystique about photography, and "that place", that he wanted to know, so he convinced his father to teach him. Thus began a life long career as a fine art photographer. Later, he went on to study fine art photography at college, and earn an MFA in photography so as to be able to teach photography on the college level, have time to produce his work, and earn a living from what he loved. He was a fine art photography teacher for over thirty years, and is now retired, having done so in 2008, to concentrate full time on his work. Over the years, Mr. Martin has won numerous awards and feature articles have been published about him in national and international publications. Recently, his pictures have been featured in the UK, Australia, and the USA. His flora images of hosta plants have won first place awards in the Prix de la Photographie, Paris, the International Photography Awards (The Lucies), and the International Garden Photographer of the Year.
