Brno, Czech Republic. My first trek to Europe, riding the train from Vienna to Prague, we stopped briefly at this weathered station in Brno, the former capital of Moravia. How the city was named remains open to debate. Some say it is from Old Czech -- brnie; or, muddy and swampy -- while others claim it's derived from Slavic: brniti, which means to armor or fortify. Still others claim it actually owes its name to a Celtic language once spoked in the region. Whatever the case, it seemed worn and old under what was a dreary sky and despite the fact years had long passed since the so-called Velvet Revolution, it still had this most Iron Curtain feel to it. I always felt this photo captured that moment. This is a Limited Edition print, numbered and signed, on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta. Size is 16 x 12 or 17.6 x 13.6 with borders . . .

I'm a national award-winning journalist and nine-time Pulitzer nominee who's made hundreds of TV and radio appearances, including NPR and Good Morning America. Author of Swee'pea [Simon & Schuster / Atria], a critically acclaimed book centered around New York City playground basketball legend Lloyd (Swee'pea) Daniels, I've been featured in several documentary films -- including the Emmy Award-winning ESPN 30-for-30 Big Shot. While I've worked primarily as a sports reporter, news reporter, columnist and investigative journalist, I've also done travel writing and photography during a four-decade career at a major New York daily paper, and I'm currently shopping my first novel. This marks my first foray into selling my fine art photography . . . P.S. I've noticed that when it comes to calling up full screen versions of some photos they appear to lack clarity. PLEASE use the "Original" file -- especially, when you're looking at Open Edition prints -- because those files appear to be proper large-scale renditions. Hoping this gets rectified . . .
