Evelyne Coutas lives and works in Paris.
She studied architecture and sculpture at l’École nationale des Beaux- Arts de Paris.
In 1983, Coutas introduced photography into her work, using light and the photosensitive properties of the silver halide process to question the representation of reality within photography. Her first photographic work, “La chambre obscure” (“The Darkened Room”) – a series of photograms created in the moonlight of her bedroom – inspired her to explore further aspects of the medium.
Combining experimentation with light and atypical photographic techniques while exploring her unique creative expression, Coutas’ images poetically question the delicate relationship between form and substance.
