Martin Linss is as comfortable a photographer on a fashion set in Los Angeles or New York as he is on a flatbed truck in Sierra Leone. Linss’s extensive range as both a cinematographer and photographer is demonstrated in a stunning and widely recognized body of work. A native of Germany, Linss moved to NYC in 1989 to study Cinematography at the School of Visual Arts; where his unique sense of style easily earned him the coveted spot at the top of his class. Since graduating with a B.A., Linss has been recognized for his work in the photographic arts across many mediums. Linss, whom also works as a Director of Photography, has collaborated with numerous artists spanning from Ringo Starr to Kanye West, he has been an MTV nominee for “Best Video of the Year,” and has won an “American Advertising Award.” His commercial client list includes Master Card, Hennessy, Skye Vodka, BreathSaver, Amazon and Maybelline to name a few. The well rounded beauty of Linss photography and passion for life has led him from the mountaintops of Kilimanjaro, to the flat lands of Sierra Leone, where he has been involved for the last five years shooting a wonderful and important project for “SHINE ON SIERRA LEONE.” Within all of his humanitarian efforts; Linss, has found a path that is unique, and has cultivated a blend of all the beauty, truth and ugliness of the subjects, wether people, landscapes or objects. Linss, has recently turned his lens towards open spaces, spaces that may invoke a memory of the viewer or one that is disturbed by a utilitarian object, the images from this series also gives the perspective of what is real, cold, beautiful and moving.
