About The Artwork

There used to be many floating markets in and around the Mekong Delta but this one at Can Tho is one of the few remaining. Everything imaginable is available for sale on the river. Some sellers specify say, meat or vegetables, but someone else might be selling furniture or automotive goods. I was reminded of the chaotic street scenes from Blade Runner. No one has a fridge in Vietnam so all meat is on the hoof, so to speak.

British born documentary and landscape photographer, now living in New York. World traveler. As a life-long environmentalist and animal lover, I've always had a deep connection with nature and the land. My work is largely informed by that connection. My influences have been Sebastiao Salgardo, Irving Penn, Joseph Koudelka and Eikoh Hosoe among others. There are no mysteries to my method; it's extremely straightforward. No special techniques or manipulation. I don't use Photoshop. I'm looking for what moves me naturally. My prints are large as they're designed to be impactful, an essential element in anyone's living room. I had stints in commercial and magazine photography in New York and London but my heart would always drag me back to documentary photography. It's where I began. I love shooting people in their work environments, watching a craftsman doing what he knows with consummate skill and love for the work. It can be mesmerizing. I'm constantly looking for the soul of the image. I'm also intensely curious about why people chose to settle where they do. Why this spot as opposed to somewhere else? What drew you here? That certainly reflects in my people work. I've always looked at photography as a tool to open the doors I need to step through in order to satisfy my own curiosity. You'll notice I shoot primarily in black and white because I want the work stripped bare of everything but cause and emotion, the very why of what made me stop and think this moment or this place worth recording. If I feel the use of color will add to the whole, then I will use it. All the photos are printed on the finest Hahnemuhle archival paper by Supreme Digital, in Brooklyn, New York, recognized as one of the finest printers anywhere in the world. Unless otherwise requested prints will be 40 x 60 inches. I can print larger sizes if you so wish.
