The Cittie of Yorke is a Grade II Listed public house on London's High Holborn, and is featured in CAMRA's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors. It's one of my favourite London pubs; it makes you feel like you are travelling back in time. Although the current pub is a rebuilding from the 1920s, the buildings on this site have been pubs since the year 1430. Features include Henneky's long bar (seen here) which is located in this grand, hall-like back room with Victorian-style cubicles (booths) along the sides. The room has a wonderful vaulted church-like ceiling. This is the view from the entrance looking along the bar. The Welsh poet Dylan Thomas penned an impromptu ode to the pub when it was called Henneky's Long Bar. The top of the poem reads "This little song was written in Henneky's Long Bar High Holborn by Dylan Thomas in 1951. SOURCE - Wikipedia. Originally from Cheshire (UK), I started out painting with watercolour and later studied technical drawing as part of my engineering qualifications. Photography offered the perfect blend of art and science and my fascination began; travelling widely with my engineering work I found urban artistic inspiration in New York, Paris, Tokyo and Toronto. Settling in London over 20 years ago, I now live among neighbourhoods and buildings which support my passion for abstract, architectural and street photography. Influenced by my background, one could say I shoot with the eyes of an impressionistic painter and the mind of an engineer. I take inspiration from everyday objects, surfaces and scenes which are often transformed into the extraordinary, surreal or abstract. I'm drawn to urban oddities, colourful collisions, deep perspective and playful geometry. To capture the most compelling stories I prefer to shoot spontaneously, unbound by genre or subject. My images have been published on the BBC and VOGUE websites, and are held in private collections in USA, UK, Canada, China, Brazil, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. All images ©2000-2024 Pete Edmunds.
