Born in 1955 Eketahuna New Zealand, a self taught photographer. In 1998 set up personal exhibition-studio space Gallery464 in Christchurch NZ.In 2000 traveled to the Middle east and Europe showing works at the NZ Ambassadors residence in Tehran. Worked in collaboration with students to make works on paper based on NZ abstract photographs at art studio Miskovic in Belgrade Serbia.2002 traveled-photographed through China.2002-2007 photographed in Australia on regular visits. Currently lives in Christchurch New Zealand.I am primarily an observer, I look for form in everything. All my series of images start with a single observation, which I then explore and build on. The great thing about photography for me is that it is a reflection of both the maker and the viewer, always the same thing yet never the same thingI'm interested in all genre's of photography however my main interest lies with photographers and photography that relates to that of the observer, such as the likes of Walker Evans and Edward Weston, and contemporary photographers such as Nan Goldin and Jeff Brouws etc. To me a great part of the essence of photography is the act itself, and what that act says about the photographer as much as it says about their subject. Currently I am working on several series of works, including an ongoing series of large scale minimalist seascapes and urban landscapes, and a series of collage works deconstructing and reconstructing familiar scenes and objects. I am also revisiting and photographing the local environment where I live in Christchurch. And finally completing a series of large often desolate Urban scenes, from a trip to the Middle East and Europe made some time ago.I use film cameras and make both hand printed Silver gelatin photographs, and large format digital pigment prints for my large scale works.
