Vintage silver gelatin darkroom print circa 1996. "Deb Parker in drag" During the 1990s in New York City, Drag Kings, women who dress as men, were in vogue. Deb Parker, a club and party promoter in New York City during the 80s and 90s decided for a spell to dress in drag. She was rather convincing. We did a photoshoot where she went from femme to masculine and documented the whole process. This is a print made from that session, shot on film and printed in my home darkroom. It's a vintage darkroom print - selenium toned printed on Ilford RC gloss paper. My work is inspired by Bruce Davidson's "Brooklyn Gang," work I came across in a library book some time during my youth.

Katrina del Mar is a New York-based art and commercial photographer, as well as an award winning filmmaker and video artist. “erotic, empowered and electric—think the best parts of feminism and queer theory mixed with sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll.” -Phillip Miner, Huffington Post “Katrina Del Mar has been active in underground film, photography and erotic fiction for two decades, and her vision is as transcendent as it is transgressive” -Carlo McCormick Photograph Magazine Her work has been described as "beautiful exuding an intimate chemistry" and also as "filth of the highest quality." Katrina herself has been described as "a major league cutie", "a wild woman", "the Lesbian Russ Meyer", and "apparently, the lesbian stepchild of Kenneth Anger". Katrina's first film, "Gang Girls 2000", shot entirely on super 8mm film, received a 4.5 star review in Film Threat Magazine, and received glowing reviews from the press, even inviting comparisons to the legendary Kenneth Anger. The follow up, Surf Gang about a gang of women surfers from Rockaway Beach in New York City, landed Katrina a prestigious Fellowship in Video from the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) and Best Experimental Film Award from the Planet Out Short Movie Awards announced at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006 and was screened at the CAPC (Museum of Contemporary Art) in Bordeaux, France. As a freelance photographer, Katrina del Mar's client list includes Sony Music, Island Records, Polygram, V2 Records, London Records, Time Out New York, People Magazine, Alternative Press, Mademoiselle, and the NYPost. As an artist, Katrina del Mar has shown her work at The Museum for Contemporary Art in Bordeaux, France, Deitch Projects, American Fine Arts Company, Binz 39 in Switzerland, the Bass Museum of Art in Miami, the Miami Light Project, P.S. 122 in New York City, and the University of Cardiff in Wales. Artist Statement: In my work I've decided to portray a somewhat idealized world that I seem to expect, where women exist not as the girlfriends and afterthoughts to the exploits of men, but as vital protagonists in rich and strange stories involving action, trust, high kicks, surfing, music, violence and humor.
