Dennehy Track, Victoria 2018 is a landscape photograph shot within the Marysville region from Evan Hancock's second series ‘Light. Ash. White.’ The ‘Light. Ash. White’ series covers shots from varying perspectives that showcase a documentation style meets fine art photography. His work reflects a sense of escapism where outcomes reference the classic and timeless qualities of film photography which are then enhanced by his selection of photographic print stock. The technique portrayed in the imagery covers the use of high contrasts bridged with sections of mid-tones and texture whilst emulating dark room processing methods to capture the beautiful feeling of film. This series expands on Evan Hancock's debut series style in that he captures a guise where perspective meets the illusion of flat patterns within the one shot causing a somewhat surreal and serene effect. The effect is one that has naturally occurred in the scarring of the landscape and is a characteristic that now shapes the re-emergence of growth in the land that was affected from natural bushfires. Each edition is printed on Baryta Photographique 310gsm accompanied with a signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

The work of Melbourne, Australia-based Evan Hancock reflects escapism and illusion conveying a continual fascinating quality across landscapes. His expression utilizes the medium of photography offering a style of documentation meets fine art by referencing classic and timeless portrayals of composition, light and tone. This style is further enhanced in print form with the use of a photographic stock resonate to the results of classic darkroom processing. Evan Hancock’s aim is to draw on his initial feelings and memories of this manual development which allows for the enrichment of deep blacks for contrast yet merge with subtle diffusions and a softening effect of varying mid tones in print form. His latest body of work ‘Light. Ash. White’ is reflective of this emerging trait where he manages to capture the real world amongst naturally surreal compositions steeped with history. The series is ultimately a consideration of his innate vision and the pre-conceiving of feelings matched with his technical tools that derives the outcome. Inevitably it is these ideas and workings that has pushed those outcomes to expose pattern and texture, where imagery is reflective of brush strokes in paintings to lithographs and etchings. His professional experience has explored motion graphic design on small and large format projects across Australia and internationally revealing his innovation and capacity to integrate screen, interactive and experiential across advertising. Utilizing exposure to these formats allows Evan to articulate his storytelling qualities into the medium of photography.
