Mayram Maryam, "EROS IN ITHRA", 2020, unique author's technique, 100 x 100 cm. Ithra welcomes you to a new adventure and new experiences that fuel your creativity, inspiration and your passion. In Greek mythology, Eros is the Greek god of love. His Roman counterpart was Cupid ("desire"). Normally, he is described as one of the children of Aphrodite and Ares and, with some of his siblings, was one of the Erotes, a group of winged love gods. In some traditions, he is described as one of the primordial gods. The Greek ἔρως, meaning "desire," comes from ἔραμαι "to desire, love". Eros appears in ancient Greek sources under several different guises. In the earliest sources (the cosmogonies, the earliest philosophers, and texts referring to the mystery religions), he is one of the primordial gods involved in the coming into being of the cosmos. In later sources, however, Eros is represented as the son of Aphrodite, whose mischievous interventions in the affairs of gods and mortals cause bonds of love to form, often illicitly. Ultimately, in the later satirical poets, he is represented as a blindfolded child, the precursor to the chubby Renaissance Cupid, whereas in early Greek poetry and art, Eros was depicted as an adult male who embodies sexual power, and a profound artist. The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture also known as Ithra, in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, developed by Saudi Aramco and inaugurated by King Salman bin Abdulaziz on 1 December 2017. Ithra is unlike any other. Ithra stands as a beacon of change in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and as a window to global experiences. As the world progressively evolves, Saudi Arabia is transforming at an even greater pace. At Ithra, we celebrate human potential as the greatest source of change; we focus on accelerating that potential by encouraging creativity, inspiring minds, and empowering talent. A project by Saudi Aramco serves as the advancement for the public. Saudi Aramco envisioned Ithra to be an environment for transformative experiences to unlock the power of potential through mastery in arts, science, literature, and innovation. Our facilities include Idea Lab, Library, Ithra Theater, Cinema, Ithr Museum, Children’s Museum, Energy Exhibit, Archives, The Great Hall, and the Knowledge Tower; all of which are housed to provide engaging and revolutionary experiences. Ithra stands to transform a new tomorrow equipped with a knowledge-based society that celebrates innovation and its traditional culture. Ithra serves as an all-purpose cultural hub. We believe in the gift and passion instilled in people, and we aim to empower human development to showcase and celebrate them. As the cultural center holds incredible vision, it is also located in a poetic landmark, at the Kingdom’s first commercial oil well, the Prosperity Well. As the center pays tribute to the wealth brought forth by the discovery of oil, it is now representing a different source of energy: human energy. Ithra earned the highest American Concrete Institute (ACI) “Excellence” award in Concrete Construction Awards and Gala event on October 2019, highlighting the institute’s impressive structure and world-class development. The center has been listed in Time magazine as the world’s top 100 places to visit. The Ithra building was designed as a collection of stones symbolizing unity by the Norwegian architectural firm, Snohetta. Just as the location was symbolic, the building was designed with a purposeful expression of time; with the tower representing the future, the ground floor components represent the present, and the underground components preserve the past.

Mayram Maryam is a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Above the valleys and the lakes: beyond The woods, seas, clouds and mountain-ranges: far Above the sun, the aethers silver-swanned With nebulae, and the remotest star, My spirit! with agility you move Like a strong swimmer with the seas to fight, Through the blue vastness furrowing your groove With an ineffable and male delight. Far from these foetid marshes, be made pure In the pure air of the superior sky, And drink, like some most exquisite liqueur, The fire that fills the lucid realms on high. Beyond where cares or boredom hold dominion, Which charge our fogged existence with their spleen, Happy is he who with a stalwart pinion Can seek those fields so shining and serene: Whose thoughts, like larks, rise on the freshening breeze Who fans the morning with his tameless wings, Skims over life, and understands with ease The speech of flowers and other voiceless things.
