ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Mangrove Man The Elemental collection was conceptually created at the end of 1996, the human and the environment, since then it already had this focus, the relationship between humans and fauna and flora. In this collection I had the happiness of uniting two passions, the first was in my childhood and adolescence that I had with forests, rivers and lakes, I was always excited about the possibility of taking part in fishing and hunting adventures. As an adult I started photographing people and this is my great passion, photography of people. I replaced hunting during my adolescence with photography in nature. In my adulthood I learned respect for nature and its benefits. The Elemental is the union of human beings with nature. The environment is only possible with this symbiotic and harmonious relationship between species. This photograph was taken in a mangrove region on the island of Florianópolis, SC, Brazil, in 1988. The team for the Elemental series photo shoots was always chosen by me, a small group of people directed and guided with the best way to interact with the environment, harmonizing for an expressive result of beauty, integration and awareness of caring for our world. The model in this photography series had an exemplary attitude and control of body and mind with the nature around him. The ecosystem between the sea and the coast, has countless small rivers, lakes, forests, which contribute in a completely necessary way to the health and strengthening of fauna and flora. Caring for mangroves demands more and more of our attention, as healthy mangroves generate life for the sea and land. Photographed with color positive film, analog camera. Scanned on a CMYK cylindrical Hell Scanner, high resolution for large enlargements and prints on fine art paper weighing 300g or more.

Artist Statement - Elemental_Marcus Luconi I am a photographer passionate about images produced with the human figure, studio portraits, locations, environments with natural light, mixing of lights, external lights, all light is fundamental and used in my art. Elemental, a photographic project created in 1996, that continues to this day, unites the human and the environment. As a child until I was a teenager, my greatest pleasure was living close to nature, the woods, countryside, rivers, lakes, anyway, living in a small country town, it was possible. I didn’t always respect nature as I do today, I learned that we must take care of what we love and respect, “humankind and the environment”. Produced in the Photographic Set, the work consists of original photography, with transparent color film, without pre-production montages, until 2005. Professional models, chosen by affinity, small team and united by the same ideal. Artistic make-up, professional specialized in characterization with body painting and props from the environment itself. Photographed with natural light and occasionally using a flashlight to highlight important highlights. From 2005 onwards, original photographs with digital back and digital cameras, with the same minimalist technique of number of people involved on the set. Elemental is a contemporary project. My art is based on original and creative photographic techniques. The forms found in nature, such as Symbiosis, Mimicry and Camouflage, were used as image references, valuing respect between species. Man cannot take over all forms of life, he must respect and collaborate so that Nature follows his path, Flora, Fauna and Humanity. The Human Being and the Environment. Respect between species.
