About The Artwork
Eleuteria Gregori Brioschi, wife and mother, died at 40 in 1948 and is buried in Milan's monumental cemetery, where I photographed her marble portrait statue in November 2017. I could find no signature showing who sculpted her, a modernist; the garden is a modest formal one in Atlanta, left over from the 1920s. She's sad, apprehensive; died too early, likely in childbirth. The price of love in the postwar boom. I've been making prints to bring these forgotten women to life for some years now.
