About The Artwork
I volunteered with San Francisco-based Global Exchange to go on a fact finding mission to the Montes Azules rainforest in Chiapas, Mexico, to investigate the government's accusations that the Indigenous Tzotzil people were burning down the rainforest and therefore needed to be evicted. We saw no signs of fire anywhere in the forest, even after doing a fly-over of the entire region. The only smoke we saw emanated from the direction of a military base close to the border of Guatemala.
