About The Artwork

I love the sea and the sky above it. Two infinite shells surrounding the earth, both at the source of life, are in an eternal conversation. They are a mirror of each other's mood and usually need few words to understand each other. The relationship between sea and sky is resembling an intimate relationship between two people: the occasional heated discussion or emotional conversation, sometimes even a fierce quarrel, at other times a gentle caress or a long intimate moment ... Sometimes there seems to be some distance, but usually they are very close together. They are forever connected, they want and can not live without each other. Every time when I climb on the dunes, as I walk the beach and when I see those two in front of me, I feel like a privileged person. Privileged that I can listen to them, that I may see their interaction, that I am allowed to learn their language and may capture this on photo to share with everyone. In a series of 10 photos I capture the words that the sea and sky speak to each other: the language of sea and sky. The inspiration for this project comes of the northwest coast of Denmark, but also of the wonderful words of the Indian poet and writer Rabindranath Tagore [Stray Birds, 1916]: What language is thine, O sea? The language of eternal question. What language is thy answer, O sky? The language of eternal silence. The title of this image is "Eternal answer" The blur caused by movement will be strengthened in the large format printing. This contributes positively to the impressionist atmosphere (see the detail image). =o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o= Limited edition custom made print, printed on 320 g / m² cotton paper*. For every photograph I sell a maximum of 4 signed and numbered large custom made prints per size (50x50cm / 20×20 inch and larger) within a total of 16 large prints, and a maximum of 10 signed and numbered small custom made prints per size (40x60cm / 16×24 inch and smaller) within a total of maximum 30 small prints. Signed, numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Many sizes available up to 115 H x 172 W cm / ~ 45 H x 67.5 W inch. Other materials (canvas, alu-dibond, Baryta paper, hard foam, acrylic glass plate) on request. Production time is 5-7 working days. Delivery: All prints are protected by plastic and/or tissue paper, rolled on a PVC tube and placed into a solid cardboard tube, which is inside a solid cardboard box. Please contact me to let me know the size and material you wish, so I can upload the artwork in that size. Special requests, such as a white, black or colored border around the photo or if you prefer the photo without a border, can of course be honored. Make your wishes known through a mail/message and I upload the custom photo. * Cotton paper is made off 100% pure and natural cotton fibers. Its natural white, smooth and velvety matt surface, the wonderful feel and the perfect color reproduction make it the perfect basis for long-lasting works of art. A special advantage is its extreme longevity. The aging resistance is due to pure, acid-free paper, which does not require any optical brighteners or other additives used in papers. The paper does not yellow, the prints remain beautiful under normal conditions for a lifetime. The extremely long shelf life is certified according to ISO 9706 (FograCert 28800).

With my artworks, I hope to tease and stimulate more than just your sight. I want you to sense what I sensed when I made the artwork; the light, the temperature, the atmosphere... sometimes even the scent of a damp autumn forest and the cold of the whirling salty breath of a storm on the beach of the North Sea. In this way I ask you to reflect for a moment on the nature around you, on the beautiful feeling that nature can evoke, on what we will lose if we continue on the path of 'never enough'. My main inspiration is the vulnerability of nature. I see changes in nature. I see the effects of urbanization, the pressure of pollution and of the changes in the climate. I hope to make people aware of that vulnerability by sharing what I feel when I look around me. My work is often described by others as abstract, minimalistic and impressionistic. My style is distinct and pure, and is characterized by soft colors, soft focus and the effects created by how I move my camera during making the photo. I like experimenting and exploring the limits of what the camera can handle. I myself often describe my style as abstract realistic and impressionistic. I mostly work in nature where I immerse myself in the shapes, colors, sounds and stillness of the natural surroundings. My work can be described as the most pure form of fine art photography, since I choose to create the abstract and impressionist effects as seen in my photographs, using only the basic camera settings. Photo software is used only to remove dust or to adjust brightness, contrast and cropping to improve my compositions. I don't manipulate my photos and I don't use digital editing tools or filters. The titles of my photos are an important element of the entire work of art. In addition, I often write a short poem or a few lines of prose to a photo. Born in 1959 in the city of Gouda in The Netherlands, I now live with my wife and dog in a small farmhouse in the Danish Thy region in North West Jutland. In the summer of 2018 my wife and I moved from a larger city in The Netherlands to a small hamlet in the Thy region. We fell in love with this region about ten years ago... We live a simple, minimalistic life, as self sufficient and sustainable as possible, and we love it... My photography has been sold and exhibited in various countries all over the world.
