This scene was captured at the last day of the Roskilde Festival in Denmark in 2000. During one of the concerts nine people were tragically crushed to death. This surreal scene, with a small tornado wind that blew up all the rubbish left behind on the festival field on the last day of the festival, including this tent, was to me those nine people saying they're last good byes.

Through exploring the relationship between our inner world and the physical body Maria's work represent a visual discourse on the contemporary female condition. With particular interest in the domestic sphere she allows the absurd to collide with the mundane and pairs humor with poignancy to investigate notions of self, identity and our emotional backyard. The uncertain nature of the boundaries between mind and body, individual and social and private and public, past and present comes alive in Maria's work.
