About The Artwork

I did this project in Talab Gavkhoni in central Iran in 2009, where they were facing a drought. It was done during the 19th Environmental Art Festival in Iran.

I recorded my footprints in this marsh walking barefoot in the water about 8 inches deep. The ground was so smooth that I felt it invited me to get into the water to make my frames. While I was walking, the black soil under the yellow ground dispersed and filled the shape of a rectangular. It took me about 2 hours to make the shape properly and not having any trace in between the rectangles.

I believe my unconscious helps to create my work; this specific piece was inspired by and with nature. As a photographer who is involved with frames and photos, I try to record "Frames" in wide landscapes instead of surrounding them inside. All frames are lasting but mine are not. My presence leaves momentary traces in nature which reflect my passing in various environments.

This photograph is part of permanent collection of Nevada Art Museum in Reno.

Minoosh Zomorodinia is an Iranian-born interdisciplinary artist who makes visible the emotional and psychological reflections of her mind's eye inspired by nature and her environment. She employs walking as a catalyst to reference the power of technology as a colonial structure while negotiating boundaries of land. Her strollings sometimes reimagines our relationships between nature, land, and technology, while addressing transformation of memories into actual physical space absurdly. Zomorodinia has received several awards, residences, and grants including the Kala Media Fellowship Award, Headlands Center for the Arts, Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists' Residency, Djerassi Residency, Recology Artist Residency, the Alternative Exposure Award, and California Art Council Grants. She has exhibited locally and internationally at Asian Art Museum San Francisco, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco Arts Commission, Berkeley Art Center, Pori Art Museum, Nevada Museum of Art, ProARTS, Untitled Art Fair Miami and many more. Her work has been featured in the SF Chronicle, Hyperallergic, SFWeekly, KQED and many other media outlets. She earned her MFA in New Genres from the San Francisco Art Institute, and holds a Masters degree in Graphic Design and BA in Photography from Azad University in Tehran. She currently lives and works in the Bay Area.
