This image of Galanthus nivalis (Snowdrop) is one of six in a series entitled 'Mary Delany's Garden (Winter),' which won an award at the Royal Horticultural Society's Art and Photography Show in 2019. Mary Delany (1700-1788) was an English artist famous for her “paper mosaicks” which she began creating in her widowhood at the age of 71. In this series I depicted the sorts of plants that might grow in the winter garden of an English lady such as Mary Delany. To create my photographs, I employ a method of 'camera-less' photography in the form of the flatbed scanner attached to my computer. The lighting effect of the scanner means that very little light enhancement post-production is required in my photographs. I have some control over their composition; which I employ in the way I place the plants on the scanner bed, and by digitally cutting and re-placing certain elements of the plant post-production. This way, I am able to create a botanically accurate, yet stylised final image of the plant. This is a giclée print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag which is a beautiful matte paper that adds a velvety depth to the black background in the photograph. This is a signed limited edition run of 4 prints. Please note that the 1st and 2nd editions have been sold. $25 of each sale will be donated to conservation charities Plant Life and Butterfly Conservation UK. + Certificate of authenticity included + This photograph comes un-framed + I recommend using non-reflective glass when framing

I am a London based botanical photo-artist born in Kent, ‘The Garden of England’ in 1989. I have been awarded a gold medal from the Royal Horticultural Society for my botanical photography, the most prestigious award for botanical art in the United Kingdom. To create my photographs, I employ an improvised technique of ‘camera-less’ photography, using the flatbed scanner as a lens. Using a camera-less technique echoes the traditional methods used for the very first botanical photographs taken in the early part of the 19th century, such as the cyanotype photogram. I have always been passionate about conservation and the natural environment, and the botanical world never ceases to amaze me. I donate £25 of each limited edition print sale to charities Plant Life and Butterfly Conservation UK. Both charities work to protect wildlife and the environments which they thrive in. I also take commissions, depending on the availability of the flora requested.
