Game of thrones - Limited Edition of 10 Photograph

0˚ is a collection of images that feature flowers encapsulated in ice. I grew up in a house full of flowers. My mother picked and arranged them and my father painted them. His paintings went up on the wall so we were literally surrounded by flowers. I wanted to something different with flowers so I started doing some research. I came across the work of Japanese artist Azuma Makoto and Kenji Shibata.This inspired me to start experimenting. I photograph the moment that the flowers emerge from the ice and bloom one last time. The ice catches and holds the sunlight beautifully. It is as if I photograph a block of sunlight with beautiful flowers in it. When I freeze the flowers, every arrangement reacts differently. As it freezes, bubbles form at random. When immersed in water, the ice cracked and created a totally unique canvas. Within the process of freezing and thawing, strange and exciting things happened. The end result is a painting made with a camera. I find it fascinating that ice can preserve something and at the same time also enhance or distort the beauty of it. For a few fleeting moments, we are treated to this preserved beauty, the past encapsulated perfectly, before the ice melts and flowers wilt. The warmth and romance of the flowers starkly contrasts with the cold sterility of the ice and a beautiful melancholy emerges. All prints are numbered and labelled with artist's signature, and come with a certificate of authenticity. Printed on Hahnemühle german Etching Paper, and has a 2cm white border This work will be shipped rolled in a secure tube.
