Golden Football Photograph

I took this photo for the Reuters Agency. The Agency asked me to photograph football on the outskirts of the cities/hosts of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Football game on a field in Vila Marçola, in Aglomerado da Serra, the second largest favela in South America, located in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. A field of earth, without walls or fences. Bare feet, slipper in hand. It doesn't matter. And joy. It's life. It's love. You can't just see the ball, although everyone is always on the lookout for it. The emotion, the subtle touch, the scream, the swing, the body dribble. The feeling of community, of belonging to a group. A team. A team. Also a dream, a glimpse of an opportunity to be somebody in the world. “The most sordid naked is of a Shakespearean complexity” Nelson Rodrigues, writer, journalist, novelist, playwright, short story writer and chronicler of customs and Brazilian football. He is considered the most influential playwright in Brazil. Born in Recife, Pernambuco, he moved in 1916 to the city of Rio de Janeiro. He died on December 21, 1980 in Rio de Janeiro.
