At the time I was working on Green (2008-2009), I was interested in both the abstractive abilities of a photograph and the subject of landscapes--specifically about the built environment. What intrigued me during that time was thinking about the ways in which landscapes were altered for consumption and then how land could be transformed into something otherworldly by creating more order in them than it normally contains. A manicured landscape such a golf course became an appropriate subject in that regard. Photographing the subject at night further abstracted and heightened the landscape alteration. The title operates as a reference to both the color of the image and a literal description of the subject—green is an area on a golf course of closely trimmed even grass where one putts. 24" x 30" | Edition of 10 | $900 Limited edition archival inkjet prints are produced on the state of the art Epson 9900 printer using the latest HDR archival inkjet technology, printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta Rag fibre paper. I am interested in the capacity of photography to re-imagine histories, subvert the sublime, and dissolve space and time. What is arresting to me about a photograph is its ability to depict surfaces and alter them simultaneously. These particular characteristics contained in the process of making photographic images are revealed, concealed and exploited in my work in order to address issues of temporality, site, landscape, veracity and the medium of photography itself. Not fixed to any particular theme and avoiding any model of what photographs should look like, each project contains its own strategy and application specific to the work.
