"Reborn" is a working title of an ongoing project that I've worked on since 2014. I want to explore our feelings around the newborn and its vulnerability, or rather our own vulnerability. I therefore try to isolate the child, take it away from the safe modern world and see what happens when I let a child be a part of nature. I also want to reflect on the Nordic mythology and how we previously looked at nature as a representative of underground creatures and the supernatural. It was then commonly believed that underground creatures had stolen newborn infant from the cradle and replaced it with an underground figure that took shape as a child, a so-called Changeling. In today's society, children are seen as innocent and something we must cherish. In Norse times in Scandinavia the children had a different status: The newborn was looked upon as strong, they could even be threatening, they were not seen as a human being until they were older. The child was included in the family or they could be excluded, which could lead to them being sacrificed to the gods or released into the wild to die. Until the 1800s, most murders in Norway was infanticide. What happens to those children who were left in the wild? A sleeping child in harmony with the environment, but at the same time as they are beautiful there is something a little bit scary about the pictures.
