About The Artwork

Here I Am This artwork is a result of a collaboration with American artist Tress.c. Tress.c used one of my artworks as a starting point for two new artworks, works with a literal and figurative layering. Tress.c and her daughter, who is battling complex neurological disorders, love nature; for them, nature is the face of God. When they are in the woods, they can relax, find healing, their inner battery is recharged. They feel that without nature they would die. Tress.c and her daughter come to rest when they sit next to a tree, listen to the wind and feel the sun on their skin. The two artworks "Here I Am" and "Crying Pines" represent the healing power of nature for her daughter, how it calms her body, mind and spirit. She connects with God and is recharged for the next day. Tress.c has chosen to create her artworks in these two ways to show her daughter's innocence, her strength and that inner battle that shines brightly in her eyes, she is fighting for her own life. "Here I Am" is a darker work to show the bitter days, the tiring days where the light is the stronger element that conveys "she's not done yet, she's still putting herself through it." The second work, "Crying Pines", is full of light and calm, to show the victories, the peace in her daughter's heart and where she is facing the viewers, challenging them to look at her as a whole, not as a handicap. (You can also find this second work in my portfolio). This artwork is available in any size you desire, up to the below mentioned maximum, in centimeters or in inches. With my artworks, I hope to tease and stimulate more than just your sight. I want you to sense what I sensed when I made the artwork; the light, the temperature, the atmosphere... sometimes even the scent of a damp autumn forest and the cold of the whirling salty breath of a storm on the beach of the North Sea. In this way I ask you to reflect for a moment on the nature around you, on the beautiful feeling that nature can evoke, on what we will lose if we continue on the path of 'never enough'. My main inspiration is the vulnerability of nature. I see changes in nature. I see the effects of urbanization, the pressure of pollution and of the changes in the climate. I hope to make people aware of that vulnerability by sharing what I feel when I look around me. My work is often described by others as abstract, minimalistic and impressionistic. My style is distinct and pure, and is characterized by soft colors, soft focus and the effects created by how I move my camera during making the photo. I like experimenting and exploring the limits of what the camera can handle. I myself often describe my styles as abstract realism and (surrealistic) impressionism. I mostly work in nature where I immerse myself in the shapes, colors, sounds and stillness of the natural surroundings. My work can be described as the most pure form of fine art photography, since I choose to create the abstract and impressionist effects as seen in my photographs, using only the basic camera settings. Photo software is used only to remove dust or to adjust brightness, contrast and cropping to improve my compositions. I don't manipulate my photos and I don't use digital editing tools or filters. The titles of my photos are an important element of the entire work of art. In addition, I often write a short poem or a few lines of prose to a photo. Born in 1959 in the city of Gouda in The Netherlands, I now live with my wife and dog in a small farmhouse in the Danish Thy region in North West Jutland. In the summer of 2018 my wife and I moved from a larger city in The Netherlands to a small hamlet in the Thy region. We fell in love with this region about ten years ago... We live a simple, minimalistic life, as self sufficient and sustainable as possible, and we love it... My photography has been sold and exhibited in various countries all over the world.
