About The Artwork
In 1989 I was travelling from Mexico City to Arizona by train and had to change at Guadalajara. I had a couple of hours to kill and walked around this beautiful city. I came across the statue which was being built at the entrance to a park. Much later I found out it's significance, that Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a priest was a hero of the Mexican war of Independence.
