Every little element of the space around us can be seen as a beautiful and special thing, a moment worth remembering occurs when you least expect it. Capture these things and immortalise these moments, if not for anyone else, at least for yourself. The things you find beauty within will be the things making a cloudy day seem a little less grey. A practice for some is a distant notion to ones life. An income that will allow one to do the things in life that one dream of. For others the practice is the dream they have always worked towards. The practice becomes personal, it becomes life itself. This practice is a diary. It is the artists' life memorised through words and photographs. Like Nan Goldin photographed her 'family' and friends in order to never forget the details of her life, Renate Solhaug take that notion of remembering and brings it into her own style and documentation, working on the themes and feelings personal to herself, yet wide enough for the outside viewers to recognise within themselves. The work produced is in form a therapy for the artist, a way of dealing with the emotions arise from special events played out in life, good and bad. At the same time as dealing with these issues buried in ones own being, the focus on a visual happiness and beauty within the images becomes crucial to the artist as a way of escaping and surpassing the negativity of the harder turns life takes.
