About The Artwork

"How many traffic lights does it take to stop a car?" is a Limited Edition Print part of the photographic series 20|20. 20|20 The existence of the human being finds the first root in the fellowship in which we show ourselves docile, practical, and permeable, to the moral conduct of our socio-contextual circumscription. The effective materiality of reality becomes valid as long as our understanding stands up against the certainty of shared perception. The authenticity of our beliefs can be as rigid as the consensus of opinion dictates regarding the things and ideas with which we face our participation in the social medium of exchange. What is real and how to define it? Through a photographic artifice, practised by the deconstructionists, I show in empty images, subtracted from humanity, an auspicious metaphysical corroboration for these questions. In a human sense, I seek to deconstruct a landscape to its minimum expression, while raising the question of ontological and existential sense. The photographic Series 20|20 is composed of portraits that show the nonsense of objects, portraits that show the sterile hustle and bustle with which humanity conducts itself, that is, the sterility of contemporary man's purpose. "How many traffic lights does it take to stop a car?" is a Limited Edition Series. Printed on request on Giclee Art Paper or Silver-based Digital C Type archival photographic paper, edge to edge on 45x30cm paper or with a white border. Prints are sent in tubes and come with a Certificate of Authenticity signed and numbered by the artist. *Price unframed. **This artwork is also available framed and mounted. ***Please note that the colours you see on your monitor may slightly differ from those of the print due to variations in monitor settings.

Aliette Bretel (n. 1981, Lima - Perú)   Peruvian photographer and visual artist based in England. Graduated from El Centro de la Imagen in Perú in 2004. My artistic medium is analogue and digital photography, cardboard cameras, digitised film, and digital video. From the beginning, my work has been defined by a strong reference to the memory, the past and the passage of time. My body of work is a unique and timeless journey that merges the physical into the intangible. Loaded with my own internal world, my photographs capture what exists beyond the obvious. With a unique, ethereal and subtle, visual poetic narrative, my images affect the emotionality of the viewer. The silence heard in them demands in the observer the exercise of contemplation, urging them to immerse in their own memories. Like an urgent call to remember themselves.
