“Thabiso Kokwana (1993) is a visual artist known for his vibrant and breath-taking depictions of tribal portraiture and street photography. He had an early interest in the arts, and he studied them through practical experience, learning through trial and error. His creative expression as a visual artist finally emerged from the hours he would spend sketching and experimenting with various mediums. Thabiso soon developed a particular style that is distinguished by bold brush strokes, brilliant colours, and a tinge of emotion. He became well-known in the art world for his ability to capture a moment and evoke powerful feelings in viewers. Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards in 2022 featured Thabiso’s artwork, which received favourable reviews from reviewers and art aficionados alike. His works have been hailed as a beautiful feast for the eyes, brimming with the colourful essence of Africa and an air of mystery that entices spectators to decipher and establish a personal connection with the artwork. With each new canvas, he strives to create a visual experience that captivates and stimulates the viewer’s imagination, inviting them to explore the beauty and complexity of the world as he sees it”. Thabiso works largely with acrylics and oils and currently works from home.
