Taken with medium format film, these images are then scanned, manipulated, and layered. The images are printed on a Luster paper and face mounted to a 1/4" non-glare acrylic with a dibond backing. The image is hung using a french cleat. All hanging materials are included with purchase. It is shipped in custom fit boxes, for a secure ride. I was thrust into a black void, floating aimlessly. Some days, I could not tell if there was any movement at all. Was I standing still or riding an unforeseen current? Off in the distance, I might see a flash of light. Here, or there, no rhyme, no reason. Gradually, the luminescence came closer and lasted longer. I was able to piece together this new landscape and I began to explore. After all, this was transcendence. Not the blissful state I always envisioned, but instead, the deep darkness that forces you to face yourself. I know my sister is on her own journey after death. Our realities parallel, our journeys mirroring each other. One in life, one in death. This body of work is the photographic manifestations of our journey together, connecting memories, desires, and our collective conscious.

Sarah Jamison is an artist living in Chicago, IL. She is the co-owner of Firefly Fiber Arts Studio, offering all natural and sustainable yarn, fiber, and classes. She is also a member of the Mixed Motion Art Semi-Professional Mambo Dance team. Sarah enjoys living her life creatively and extends her passion into photography, fiber arts, and dance. I am interested in how the photograph functions as an object of experience - connecting memories, desires, and the collective conscious. My work centers around photographic manifestations of memory, fantasy, and the present moment, creating a web that intertwines personal biographies. I first began taking photography classes in high school, as a tech program with the local college. There, I fell in love with the magic of the darkroom. I pursued my passion through college and grad school, earning my MFA in 2011. After graduate school, I returned to working with large format film, enjoying the slower process of the film and image development. Growing up, my mother received her degree in geology, and taught us how the world slowly heaved and sighed through time. She also taught us to look up at the sky, and realize we are only one small rock in a galaxy full of rocks. It should be no surprise that my travels gravitate to mountainous regions, where the earth and sky meld into one. As I trek through the rugged landscape, my steps create a mindfulness that allows a new perspective on my experience. This slow process is integral to my work. I enjoy sitting with my process, and taking my time with my work. When creating my images, I cut and shape the two-dimensional space to create a new space and dimension. These new landscapes connect the layers of the physical self, the mental self and the spiritual self. We all have our own walk through life, and our own landscape to trek through. These photographic objects are a snapshot of where we have been, and where we need to go.
