About The Artwork

"The real voyage of discovery is not to look for new landscapes, but to have new eyes." Marcel Proust This photograph in classical black-and-white shows a famous spot on Japanese Island Kyushu near Hiroshima. This picture of the "Itsukushima Shrine Torii" is a homage to the work of Swiss writer, traveler and photographer Nicolas Bouvier. It was first shown in a actual solo show during autumn 2020 and published in my most recent photo-art-book. Without being one of those globetrotters who regularly set out to conquer other places and continents, my work often deals with travel and tourism. What others say about this project: "After taking university courses in ethnology, the photographer worked to document his socio-cultural environment with a humanistic and emphatic eye. Over many years, he has built up a singular body of work that shows various aspects of daily life in a globalized world. To this work are added, as time goes by, images taken during trips in Switzerland and throughout Europe, in Japan, South Korea and Latin America afterwards." (Museum Murten) Photograph and prints are developed by the artist, scanning the original analogue film negative and printed on fine-art Museum quality fiber paper (acid free, lignin free, no optical brighteners). Other formats are possible. Signed and numbered.

Swiss based artist and photographer working in the fields of FineArt, editiorial and advertising. Winner Swiss Press Photo Award 2014 (Reportage). Individual shows in museums and galleries. Publisher and author of fineArt photography books. Exhibition curator. Ausstellungsmacher. Looking for international gallery representation. "The work of P. Romano Riedo proves that photography retains its own domain (...). Every single image condenses an emotion, concentrates (...). It provides information and traces that last. It supports memory, it keeps time and light. Despite its accuracy, it causes dreams and evokes imagination. " Ch. H.
