16x20 inch selenium toned silver print. 2 prints remaining (1 of 2) During the 80s I photographed with black and white film two animals, a dog (Leela) and a cat (Ernie). Leela pictures appeared in various books (The Dog in Photography, The Photographed Dog and others) and Ernie pictures were published in my book, Ernie: A Photographer's Memoir, first published in 1985 (Capra Press) and republished by Chronicle Books in 1999. I had a few shows of this work in NYC galleries (Witkin Gallery, Light Gallery). At that time, I did not edition my work, but maybe around 10 prints of this image of Leela were sold, three of them to museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Art, Boston, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. I no longer print my work in the black and white darkroom, so these are the two last silver prints left. I like to think that this is the world's only picture of a large black dog about to attack an ant.
