Pigment Print There have been so many controversies over the Barbie dolls owing to its innate duplicity and abnormal ratio of body. Despite the criticism, Barbie is still an idol for children and women around the world. And it took more too long for a black Barbie doll to be born. There are still racial discriminations between white and black Barbies, just like in the real world. The dual way of seeing Barbie and the mentality behind it motivated me to pick the world-famous doll as the main material. I distorted the time and space and made the new ones, at once familiar and unknown, that look like where Barbie lives. Our own world had disappeared, but a new space for the subconscious was created to find a meeting point of consciousness and unconsciousness. My works are on the verge of painting and photography. Particularly, it’s what I want see, not what is simply seen. The photo images become backgrounds and objects of my “painting,” and with the artistic composition and symbolism added, the final works are completed
