About The Artwork

My studio is in an industrial warehouse. There is a beauty to be found in the simple structures , especially when the late afternoon light is during in through the gridded windows. This image feels like a still life, with the broom positioned as if someone had just walked away. I photographed the scene with a tilt-shift, architectural lens . The pattern on the wall caused by the shadows of the window create a pattern, proving that photography ins the " pencil of nature". I made a large scale sculpture ( 48" x 48" ) of the image by placing the image into a triptych mirror , with movable side panels. This work is a maquette of the sculpture. A black and white image was laser cut scored at Magnolia Editions in Oakland, Ca so that the side panels could come forward. The folded image is placed inside of a box frame, 10" x 10" x 2". I made a small edition of 10.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My studio is in West Oakland, a neighborhood that is transitioning from industrial manufacturing to live-work spaces. I am looking at human spaces in transition. Due to gentrification and redevelopment, many buildings awaiting a makeover are covered in graffiti and multiple layers of paint, becoming like ” found paintings”. These layered wonders suit the process I work with, and also serve as records of these neighborhood changes. I print the photographic image on clear film instead of paper, adding paint, collage or pastel behind the transparent film image. This enhances the dimensionality already inherent in the transparent positive film. This double layer is scanned and printed up to 60 inches on watercolor or photo luster paper.
